How Cambridge Cat Sitting Began (and Why We Love What We Do)

Two cat-obsessed humans, one elegant feline called Duchessa, and a whole lot of love.

At Cambridge Cat Sitting (formerly The Fulbourn Cat Sitting Company), they’re not just here to feed your cat and water the plants - they’re here because they really love cats. Like, obsessively. The kind of people who stop to say hello to every cat on the street and remember their names.

They began in the village of Fulbourn, offering care to a small group of local cat lovers. Over time, thanks to word of mouth and lots of happy tails, their little service grew beyond the village - into Cambridge and the surrounding areas. So they decided it was time their name grew with them.

And that brings us here. Same trusted team. Same heartfelt care. Just a name that better reflects the cats (and humans!) they’re so lucky to serve.

So how did all this begin? Let us introduce you to the humans behind the paw prints…

Meet Laura – Founder, Feline Whisperer & Longtime Cat Companion

Laura’s love of animals started early - and never left. Growing up in Milan, Italy, she was surrounded by all kinds of pets (cats, rabbits, birds, even terrapins and a duckling!), but it was her grandmother who truly shaped her gentle approach to animal care. She taught Laura how to care for pets properly, how to read body language, and how to earn a cat’s trust instead of expecting it.

Her first cat sitting experience? Helping her neighbour look after a glamorous black cat named Duchessa. Laura was still in primary school, but with her grandmother’s help (and later all on her own), she fed, cuddled, cleaned, and quietly fell in love with the idea of caring for cats as a way of life.

Fast forward a few years (okay, a few decades!) and Laura is now based in Cambridge, with her own gorgeous cat Max and a garden full of hedgehogs and birds she keeps well fed. She’s also a school librarian and a trained first aider - volunteering over the years with both the Green Cross in Milan and St. John Ambulance here in Cambridge.

Laura has also gone the extra mile with training, completing:

  • Level 3 in Cat Anxiety and Stress

  • Level 3 in First Aid for Kittens and Cats
(And yes, she got Higher Distinctions in both.)

In short: she’s calm, experienced, and totally tuned into your cat’s vibe.

Meet Sarah – Rescue Hero, Garden Queen & Cat Cuddler Extraordinaire

Sarah joined the team in 2021 and officially became Laura’s co-partner in 2024 - but she’s been caring for animals for most of her life. As a kid, her house was a mini zoo: cats, dogs, guinea pigs, hamsters, birds, tortoises… you name it. So it’s no surprise that as an adult, she kept going.

Sarah’s been pet sitting for over 12 years, and since 2016 has volunteered for Cats Protection, fostering 73 cats and counting from the cattery she built in her own garden. Yep, she’s the real deal.

These days, she shares her life with 3 cats, 2 pugs, a rabbit, and a chicken (we told you - animal people). She’s also a beekeeper, a passionate gardener, and works at a private school in Cambridge where she creates beautiful, calming outdoor spaces for the pupils to enjoy.

Her home is full of creatures. Her heart is too.

So… Why Cat Sitting?

Because they get it. They really do. Cats are part of the family - and they don’t always love change. That’s why they come to them, offering care that’s personal, relaxed, and full of the little details that help them feel safe in their own space.

They’re not a big, faceless agency. They’re just two slightly cat-obsessed women, and a group of amazing sitters, who will treat your cat like they’re one of their own.

Whether your cat is cuddly, cautious, curious or a little bit chaotic - they’ve probably met their type before, and they can’t wait to meet yours.
